My First Advertising Revenue Cheque!
As much as I enjoy blogging on my four blogs, one of my goals is to develop a passive income to supplement my husband’s and my retirement in fifteen years.
Since I started six months ago, I’ve seen my advertising revenue add up very slowly and in very small amounts. The time frame from actual sale to payout is quite lengthy because the providers wait until they’ve been paid by the advertiser before paying the bloggers.
My first cheque is from LinkShare.com and is for a whole $44.98! This revenue is from commissions on the sale of Web Design Generator – Artisteer, the software I use to design the WordPress themes of my own sites, as well as the themes I offer for free download at my site Empty Nest Themes; and purchases from Footnote.com, one of my favorite sites for genealogical research.
Believe it or not, I was more excited to open the envelope containing this cheque than I have been to see the automatic deposits of my government pay in the past, and my government pay has been substantially more. There’s something special about reaping the financial benefits of one’s own efforts on one’s own behalf.

I have just started earning revenue, but I would definitely say Google Adsense is the best overall performer, although I have had some good results as well from my Artisteer affiliation through LinkShare – probably due to the fact that it relates directly to the content of the themes site. I make sure to optimize my pages for Google ads for better results and then I use the others to fill in. Google Adsense site has some good advice on optimization. One other thing I learned the hard way is that contextual ads through Google perform much better than interest based – at least on my themes site.
