Six tips to starting a powerful blog.

bloggerWant to have a blog that draws people to read it regularly? Or put your business in the forefront of the online community? Out of a gazillion blogs out there, how would you make yours stand out from the crowd? Blogging alone and interesting contents are not enough to catapult your blog.

Here are some useful tips to put that much-needed oomph into your blog.

Passion alone won’t make your blog a hit.

You may be passionate about your blog but it takes a lot more than that to make it successful. Your passion should be coupled with work and consistency. Your blog should be a product of knowledge, research, and experience too. Being passionate is not just a feeling, it is also finding ways on how to improve your blog and bringing to your readers quality content.

Have a consistent look & feel for your blog.

Most successful blogs are usually those who concentrate on certain topics, niche or interest. This goes for the look and feel of your blog as well. Starting from the name of your blog to its theme and background, it should exude the interest that your blog offers. It would seem funny and confusing if let’s say your blog is about “rock and roll” and you have “ribbons and laces” as your blog theme. There are a lot of names and themes to help you with your blog. You just have to be creative in choosing what will work for you.

Create an editorial calendar for your blog content.

An essential part in making your blog powerful is an editorial calendar. It is like a planner or task scheduler where you can see the overview of your blog. Blog content should be well-planned and managed and an editorial calendar can help you control and map out your content strategy. Better to create a year-long calendar then divide and spread your tasks through it. You can always update it as needed. Your random notes in your notebook may do for a start but you may want to level it up by adapting a digital one. Templates and plugins for this are conveniently available online.

Publish posts consistently.

An open secret of the most successful blogs around is that they come out with posts regularly. Consistency is the key. If you have set up your editorial calendar, make sure that you have scheduled to publish a post on a regular basis, say weekly. If netizens like your blog, expect these people to check your site regularly. Don’t lose the momentum by not updating your content.

Generate meaty & useful blog contents.

A blog with substance is most likely to be tops with the readers. Your blog may be popular but if you don’t add value to your content or offer something that can be useful, interesting or unique to your readers, interest may wane away. Contents may be to entertain or inform but make sure that it piques your readers’ curiosity and interest. What will make it relevant in their lives? This is especially true if you use your blog for business or to sell something. People will follow your blog if they can get value out of it so give them what they want and need to read.

Respond to comments on you blog posts & other relevant blog points.

A blog can be made powerful not by the blogger alone but by the readers as well. It is important to engage with your readers by replying to comments or feedback. Read them and respond to them accordingly and be open to suggestions. This activity helps you gauge your blog’s stature and come up with new ideas or content. If you find yourself reading and responding to more comments, your blog may be picking up. Readers’ activity helps a lot in drawing traffic to your blog.

These tips are quite easy to do as long as you do it consistently. It is like pairing your passion with work on a regular basis.
